Here are our Top Do’s and Don’ts for submitting a professional-looking CV to Insight Recruitment (one that will get our attention quickly)

Do…

  • Pay attention to detail in terms of layout and spelling of all names and products
  • Make it easy to read with bullet points and neat paragraphs
  • Read the advert properly first if you are responding to a particular advert for a position
  • Put your contact details clearly on the front page in the header/footer of the document
  • Add your email address to your CV, indicating if it is yours or a colleague’s
  • Keep it small, file size wise – a 4 or 5 MB download is not acceptable
  • Use a simple clean font – 10pt Arial, Verdana or similar
  • Include a small professional photo of yourself if you have one, it’s great to put a face to the CV!
  • Mention specific work related targets, achievements, awards, etc
  • Include details of all types of work related training that you have attended
  • Add contactable references of previous or current employers, whom you have reported directly to, their designations and contact numbers
  • Add details of your salary requirements
  • Add the reason for leaving on all positions listed on your CV.

Don’t …

  • Cut and paste a standard introduction off a CV template you found – we can spot it a mile away
  • Cut and paste your current 3-page job description to your CV (Tell us what you actually do)
  • Send a blanket email to 50 recruiting agencies with your CV attached – do it individually
  • Ask a friend to email your CV to every single position advertised
  • Use clipart, graphics or squiggly borders on each page
  • Save and send each page separately as a jpeg file
  • Add three paragraphs about your passion for bird-watching and only a one-liner about your work related awards, achievements, etc.
